Do you have the desire for a gorgeous, brand new kitchen that will actually inspire you to cook rather than to order out every night? Perhaps you feel this way, but think you can’t afford it, especially after seeing the budget that the couple had to work with in the last episode of Property Brothers. While it is true that you can spend a pretty penny on a renovation project such as a kitchen remodel, it doesn’t mean you necessarily have to. Read on to see how you can accomplish a kitchen renovation on a shoestring budget.
- Faux Brick Backsplash. Adding a backsplash to your kitchen is an excellent way to make a huge statement and unique change. Using faux brick paneling makes it not only affordable, but easy to accomplish even on your own. Faux brick is great because it is impervious to moisture, which makes it resistant to mold, mildew, and rot. This is integral in the case of a kitchen backsplash because it is obviously a high moisture area. The last thing you want is water seeping into the walls and having to deal with mold! Faux brick panels take roughly several hours install, and can be done with only a few standard tools and either caulk or glue.
- Repaint Cabinets. Rather than get an entirely new set of cabinetry, repaint what you already have! There are plenty of paints available out there that enable you to get the job done without having to completely re-sand the wood. Add some new hardware, and bam! Your cabinets will look brand new.
- Shop at Resale Stores. You can find things such as appliances, old farm sinks, and even countertops just by hunting around at your local consignment and resale stores. Rather than paying top dollar for something brand new, find something in great condition that is new to you.
- Dress up the Island. An easy way to do this? You guessed it: faux wall paneling. Add faux stone, faux brick, or faux wood paneling around your kitchen island to spruce it up completely. The panels will not crack, dent, or chip so you won’t have to worry about them getting knocked or bumped when people sit at the counter (or when the dog comes sliding through the kitchen chasing after his ball). It is an affordable and easy way to dress up the island and give your kitchen an entirely new look.
