If you are one of the few lucky individuals that gets to work from home full-time, or even part-time, then this article was made for you.  You probably recognize that your work environment will influence your overall work output, either positively or negatively.  It is extremely important, especially in your home office, that you have created an environment that motivates you, is comfortable, and allows you to get the most possible work done.

wood home officeRead on to see how to make your office a space that makes you want to burn the midnight oil.

  1. Location. Location is a very important factor.  Make sure your office is located in a comfortable space.  Having a squished, small desk tucked into the laundry room, for example, is probably not going to facilitate the most efficient workflow.  Strategically place your home office so it is not a place where heavy traffic is going to be moving in and out while you are trying to get work done.  If you have a spare room in the house to make into the office, it is the most ideal.
  2. Good Seating. Because your desk is a place that you will be sitting at for hours on end, it is wise to invest in proper seating.  Ergonomically designed chairs will help your posture and cut down on any potential back problems.  Having a beautiful, comfortable chair will be worth every penny you spend.
  3. Having proper storage and desk space is instrumental in a home office.  Consider your workflow.  Make the form and layout of your office function-able for you, rather than you adhering to it.
  4. Unique Features. Consider what sets your mind at ease.  What makes you feel relaxed?  Is it candles burning in the background?  Fresh flowers and potted plants?  Lots of natural light?  Spend some time thinking about these different features and incorporate them into your home office space.
  5. Design. Faux wall panels are the perfect way to complete your home office design.  Whether or not your style is classic, modern, or eclectic- there is something for you at Faux DirectFaux stone, faux wood, or faux brick panels work amazing as an accent wall or wainscoting.  They add dimension, texture, and a unique touch that is perfect for setting the overall mood and tone of the room.  Faux wall panels are an affordable and easy way to complete your design, as they can be installed on your own and require no labor fees.  Check out the wide variety of options under our ‘Products’ section.

If you are lucky enough to have a special room in your house just for laundry, this article is just for you.  Utility rooms are one of the most often used rooms in the home, yet typically the most often overlooked when it comes to design.  Although it may not be the number one place you take your guests on your home tour, don’t you want your utility room to feel warm and inviting?  It’s bad enough that laundry is never-ending, so you might as well make it a place that is comfortable, and even sets you at ease.

utility room 1Read on for some awesome tips on how you can transform your utility room in no time, and take it from a place you dread to a place you don’t want to leave.

  1. Proper Storage. The utility room, in addition to doing laundry, is also a place where many things can be stored.  Odds and ends, things that you would not put in your kitchen or your bedroom (i.e. paint buckets, cleaning supplies, extra towels, etc).  Having proper storage is a key feature of an awesome utility room.  Consider shelving above your washer and dryer, as well as cabinetry along the walls.  Many people have a sink in their utility room, and underneath the sink is another excellent place for storage.
  2. Unique Design. A unique way that people are transforming their utility rooms is by adding texture and dimension to the walls.  Just like in a kitchen backsplash, placing faux stone or faux brick above the sink along the walls is an amazing way to create this look.  Faux wall paneling is an ideal choice because of how affordable and resilient it is.  It is impervious to moisture, and resistant to mold, mildew, and rot.  These are very important things to consider when adding materials to a high moisture area like a utility room.
  3. Seating. If the space allows it, having a comfortable place to sit is a nice factor to introduce to your utility room.  This way, you can keep all of the laundry contained in one place, as you will have a place to relax and fold and sort laundry.
  4. Paint. In addition to your faux wall paneling, choosing soothing paint colors for the remainder of the wall is key.  Lighter, more neutral colors provide an airier and more open feel.  They usually make the space appear larger than it actually is as well.

At first glance, the title of this article may sound silly.  Why would the maternity ward need a special design?  It is part of the hospital, after all.  Well, in case you hadn’t noticed, hospitals can be quite sterile and outdated.  The lack of warm design in return makes patients feel uncomfortable and raises anxiety levels.  When it comes to giving birth, those are the last things an expectant mother should be feeling.  Instead, they should feel close to home, comfortable, and relaxed.  The best way to do this (in addition to providing excellent patient care), is through maternity ward design.

stone wall hospital roomOne way hospitals are upping their game in this department is through artwork displays.  Often, especially in newly renovated Labor and Delivery units, beautiful photos of newborn babies are displayed along the walls.  Unanimously, the human race can agree that precious photos of babies can do the heart and soul good. These photos are typically displayed in the recovery unit of the maternity ward, as to be sensitive to those in labor.  The experience is not positive for all women, and hospitals like to recognize this fact.  In the laboring unit, peaceful artwork of budding flowers and nature is often displayed.  This gives the laboring mom something to draw her focus to, especially if she chooses to walk up and down the unit.

Another way that maternity ward design has shifted is through wall design.  Instead of wallpaper that reminds you of the 1960s, more and more hospitals are using neutral, peaceful paint colors combined with textured walls.  The way they do this is through the use of faux wall paneling, typically faux stone.  Faux stone paneling is the best way to add dimension and a unique touch without investing too much financially.  The panels allow the hospitals to stay within budget, yet still provide a design that looks and feels expensive.

The faux stone panels are generally used on the lower portion of the wall, or on the entire wall for an accent wall.  The accent wall can typically be found behind the nurse’s station and even behind the laboring mother’s bed.  Faux Direct offers a wide variety of faux stone paneling, including neutral, light colors that make the space feel larger yet cozier at the same time.  The reaction of patients is one of delight, and these hospitals are growing more and more popular due to the luxurious feel they provide.

Having an accent wall in your home is an amazing way to showcase a specific feature, add delineation to an open floor plan, and create a focal point within a room.  The most popular room of the house to create an accent wall in is typically the main living area, however many people enjoy accent walls in their kitchens, bathrooms, and even bedrooms.

Adding texture to create the accent wall rather than just a different color paint is quickly becoming a trend.  It looks better, provides dimension in the room, and gives off a unique vibe.  One way this is done beautifully is through the addition of faux wood paneling.  Faux wood provides the texture and dimension as well as the amazing look of authentic wood without the same price tag and time frame that authentic wood would require.

Faux wood paneling costs a fraction of the price due to the synthetic polyurethane material it is constructed from.  The polyurethane begins in foam form, and is cast from authentic wood panels.  The end result, once dried, is painted to look exactly the same.  The only giveaway is how lightweight the panel is.  However, because of this, it can be installed all by yourself!  Yep, that’s right- faux wood paneling is DIY!  And you know what DIY means?

No contractors!

This is another cost that is eliminated, as you will easily apply your panels on your own in a matter of hours.  No messy project that takes weeks to accomplish, no expensive tools or machine rentals, and no messy wood glue.  The only things required for installation are a few standard tools and simple caulking or glue from Faux Direct.

In addition to being affordable, faux wood panels are extremely durable.  Polyurethane, by nature, is a closed cell material.  This makes it completely impervious to moisture, and resistant to all types of mold, mildew, and rot.  They are also weatherproof, so if you had the wild hare to add an accent wall outdoors, you wouldn’t have to fret one bit!  They can handle both hot and cold weather, and rain or shine.  Faux Direct’s panels are also fire rated should you choose to use them around a heat source such as a fireplace or stove.  Best of all?  Faux wood panels are resistant to termites!  The same definitely cannot be said for authentic wood, as termites are always a possibility.

If you have made the wise decision to add an accent wall in your home, but are looking to add a little creativity to your design, faux brick paneling is the way to go.  Faux brick adds texture, dimension, and an entirely different look and feel opposed to using a simple coat of paint that varies from the remaining walls in the room.  Would you rather see a brick wall around a fireplace, or a dark shade of maroon?  These are things to keep in mind when making changes to your interior design, as they are only going to help your resale value.

At Faux Direct, we offer a wide variety of faux brick panels to choose from.  For example, you can go with the traditional red Chicago brick or you can go with a completely different look with the Paris grey brick panels.  If you want to see something in person prior to making your decision, request a free sample from the customer service team.  Your only requirement will be to cover the shipping costs.  This way you will be 100% sure about the decision you are making and know that the look will fit your scheme.

The panels usually take around 2-3 weeks to arrive, and then the fun begins.  The best part about using faux brick for an accent wall is that you can install them yourself!  Unlike authentic brick, faux brick panels are DIY and only require a few standard tools and either caulk or glue for installation.  An accent wall application typically takes several hours to complete and that’s it!

Using faux brick panels for your accent wall will enable you to rest assured that they will last and look amazing for years to come.  The reason for this is that the panels are highly durable.  They are made from a high quality synthetic material called polyurethane.  Polyurethane is extremely tough as it will not crack, chip, or dent.  It is also impervious to moisture, making your panels resistant to mold, mildew, and rot.  They are fire rated as well so you can choose to use them around a heat source such as a stove or fireplace.  If you use them in a high moisture area such as a kitchen or bathroom, you’ll be happy to know they are easily cleaned by simply wiping them down with a damp rag.  The same cannot be said for their authentic counterparts, as you probably know that grout attracts just about everything!  Head to our ‘Products’ section now to start brainstorming on which faux brick panels will be the perfect material for your accent wall.

It is so easy, especially when designing your home interior, to go with what you know.  Although this can be wise in certain instances (i.e. choosing a brand that’s well known versus something that has zero user reviews), you could also do yourself a little favor by getting creative.  Think about down the road, when you go to resell your house.  Put yourself in the home buyer’s shoes.  Do you want your house to feel like the last 20 they have looked at?  Or would you rather the house stand out due to it’s creativity and unique design?  We are guessing that your answer is probably the latter.

So, if you’ve made the decision to get creative with your home interior, where do you begin?  You definitely do not want to get too out there, because you want the design to appeal to the majority.  For example, if you want to get creative with your floors, installing shag carpet from the 70s because you are trying to be ‘vintage’ is probably not the way to go.  Very few people will end up liking the look and it will put you in a bind when you go to sell.  Instead, go for something that has general appeal to all, but is something you do not see every day when you walk into a house, such as a faux stone accent wall.

Often times, when you see an accent wall, it is created simply by a paint color that is different from the rest of the walls in the room.  In this regard, the wall stands out and becomes an accent wall.  Although this can be visually appealing, it is really nothing new.  Definitely not something that is going to make your house stand out.  If you use faux stone panels, however, you will be getting as creative as it gets.

Stone is a look that is virtually timeless.  It has always been around, and always will be.  People have loved and will continue to love the classic look and feel that stone brings.  Now, with faux stone paneling, you do not have to spend the same amount of time or money in order to achieve the same look.  Faux stone panels are affordable and can be applied all by yourself.

Redecorating your home provides you with countless decision making opportunities.  Do you go with this, or do you go with that?  Do you shop here, or do you shop there?  Do you employ a contractor, or do you do it yourself?  Do you wait another year and save up to make your budget even bigger, or do you try and accomplish it all for a fraction of the price?  You get where we are going here.

Another huge choice you will have to make when redecorating or remodeling your home is what material to use.  For instance, say you are creating a brick accent wall or a stone kitchen backsplash.  Do you choose authentic brick and stone?  Or do you choose faux wall paneling?

Obviously, at Faux Direct we know the wisest choice.  We urge you to think hard about this one, educate yourself, and weigh your options so you make the best possible decision.  Here are some points to help you along:

Faux wall paneling is affordable.

Do you like spending thousands of dollars for no reason?  Well, if you choose authentic stone for a backsplash, that just might be the case.  Faux stone paneling literally looks and feels exactly the same as authentic stone, but costs a fraction of the price.  The only difference is how heavy the actual material really is.  The reason for this is the panels are made from polyurethane (rather than real stone).  The polyurethane begins in foam form and is cast from authentic stone, and the end result is dried and painted to look exactly like it.  The only giveaway is how lightweight they are.  Because of this, however, they can be installed on your own!  You will also save a fortune here: no contractor, no expensive and messy grout, and no machine or tool rentals!

Faux wall paneling is durable.

Authentic stone and brick, as gorgeous as it is, cracks and chips.  It is also extremely hard to clean.  Have you ever tried getting spaghetti sauce out of white grout?  Not fun.  Faux wall paneling is impervious to moisture (thanks to polyurethane) and is resistant to mold, mildew, and rot.  It is easily wiped down with a damp rag to clean, and it will not crack, chip, or dent!  Best of all?  It is completely weatherproof, so they can be used outdoors as well.

Faux wall paneling is versatile.

There are literally so many projects that can be accomplished with faux wall paneling.  In addition to faux stone and faux brick, Faux Direct also offers faux wood paneling.  People everywhere are using these panels for accent walls, backsplashes, bathrooms, bedroom walls, wainscoting, man caves, wine cellars, home exterior, patios, and pools!

There are little tips and tricks out there that will make your life a whole lot easier.  These are typically referred to as ‘life hacks’.  Life hacks are generally cheap, easy, and make you wonder why you didn’t think of them in the first place.  Below is a list of cheap backyard life hacks that you can do yourself that will make your summer livin’ much easier this summer.

  1. Stop the Weeds. How annoying are those tiny little weeds that grow up in cracks of concrete that are impossible to pull?  Instead of fixing the concrete, use concrete filler in the cracks to keep those little guys away!concrete filler
  2. Repurpose Cinderblocks. Do you have a few of these bad boys lying around?  Often times people do, and no one knows what to do with them.  They are pretty heavy, and because of this people tend to leave them where they are, rather than get rid of them or find another use for them.  You can actually paint them and use them as planter beds!  How cool does this look:cinder block garden
  3. Get a Bucket Table. A bucket table serves two purposes: a table, obviously, and a storage space.  It is extremely frustrating to spend money on items that end up getting ruined by the weather.  Instead of leaving your outdoor candles to rust, stick them in the bucket table for safety.bucket table
  4. Use Faux Wall Paneling. You can create countless gorgeous projects with faux wall panels, including a fire pit, pool waterfall, retaining wall, outdoor kitchen and even exterior wall coverage.  They are DIY, affordable, and easy as all get out to apply. They look like you spent thousands, and will add an entirely new feel to your backyard to be enjoyed by all this summer.FD outdoor kitchen
  5. Build a Fence Table. Ever wish you had extra space to serve food, work on projects, or place things?  If this is you, but you do not want to purchase more expensive outdoor furniture, then a fence table is your ultimate solution.
  6. Make Your Own Stepping Stones. Forget spending lots of money on flagstone when you can DIY.  These people used rubber doormats and spray painted them with concrete spray paint.  Total cost is around $20!rubber door mat
  7. Create a Rope Swing. What kid doesn’t like swinging for hours on end?  No need to go out and buy a brand new swing when you can create your own rope swing.  Simply grab the supplies at your local hardware store, and assemble in minutes!rope swing

There is nothing more gorgeous than a cascading stone fireplace that runs from the floor all the way up to the ceiling.  Talk about making a statement in your home.  Do you dream of adding this beautiful feature to your house, but not sure how you would actually make it happen?  After all, there are expensive materials involved.  Not to mention expensive tool rentals, grout, and most likely labor costs.  When the project is all said and done, you are looking at several thousand dollars.

faux stone fireplace

If you don’t have this kind of money in your renovation budget, but want to create the fireplace of your dreams, there is another option for you.

Faux stone paneling.

Do not be thrown off by the word faux.  Although these panels are in fact, synthetic, they are the farthest things from looking fake.  At Faux Direct, we use a high quality polyurethane to create each of our panels.  The polyurethane begins in foam form, and is cast from authentic stone.  The end result, once dried, will contain all of the same grooves, curves, and edges of the original stone.  It is then painted to match the stone exactly.  Unless you pick up the panel (because it is incredibly lightweight), you would never know the difference.  The amount of money you will save by choosing faux versus authentic stone will be enough to send you and your significant other on a vacation!

Like we mentioned, the panels themselves are extremely lightweight.  Because of this you can actually install them yourself.  The only things required are either caulk or glue and a few standard tools in order to get the job done.  You know what this means?  The fireplace of your dreams is a DIY project!  No labor costs involved whatsoever.

The final benefit to going faux is how durable the faux stone panels are.  If you are worried about placing a synthetic material next to a heat source like a fireplace, don’t be!  We have fire rated panels available for that reason specifically.  Polyurethane, by nature, is a closed cell material, making it impervious to moisture.  This also means that your panels will be resistant to mold, mildew and rot!  They also will not crack, chip, or dent.  Basically, your fireplace will look amazing for years to come.

Instead of spending thousands of dollars and tons of time on an authentic stone fireplace, get the fireplace of your dreams by selecting one of the many gorgeous options of faux stone panels from Faux Direct.

If you have made the decision to add faux stone paneling to a wall or walls in your home, you have absolutely made an amazing decision.  (Not that we are biased or anything).  You may be wondering, however, the best way to use your faux stone paneling and the various stone wall ideas out there.  Here are a few ideas to get those wheels of yours turning.  When you are done reading this, you will certainly know exactly how you wish to use your faux stone paneling.

The most popular way faux stone panels are used on a wall is to create an accent wall.  Accent walls are wonderful because they are great at showcasing a specific feature.  For example, many people choose to use an accent wall on the same wall they hang a valued piece of art or family portrait.  Generally, the furniture will be arranged to face the wall as it becomes the point of focus in the room.  How much better to have stone panels on a wall rather than plain paint?  Check out the example below:FD Stone Accent Wall

Another faux stone wall idea is to use the panels going up the staircase.  This is a great way to add texture and dimension and also a unique look inside of your home.  You will also be able to hang photography and artwork right on top of the panels going up the stairs, if you please.

Adding faux stone to a kitchen backsplash is also a huge hit.  Backsplashes are great at filling in the gap between the wall and the countertop, and they also provide a moisture barrier.  The last thing anyone wants to deal with is a water damaged wall, because with that comes mold, mildew, and a whole lot of headaches.  Faux stone panels are impervious to moisture, and are resistant to mold, mildew, and rot.  They are also easy to clean!  Not to mention gorgeous:FD Stone Kitchen backsplash

A final idea on how faux stone panels can be used on a wall is in the bathroom.  Add faux stone inside the shower or behind the bathtub to create a spa like feel right in the walls of your own home.  Again, because the panels are impervious to moisture, you won’t have to worry about any water damage.  And, there won’t be any hard to clean grout like there would be with authentic stone!  Simply grab a damp rag and wipe them clean!  Look how beautiful this bathroom is with the faux stone wall addition:FD stone shower
