No matter what room of the house you are looking to renovate, we have the perfect addition for you: faux stone panels.  Faux stone panels look amazing in any room of the house, whether it is the fireplace in the living room, the shower in the bathroom, the backsplash in the kitchen, or even on an accent wall in a bedroom (amongst many other applications).  They are the perfect addition for so many reasons, and we at Faux Direct want to name you a few:

  1. Affordability. Have you ever had a desire to renovate or redesign a specific room or a specific feature in a room, however you did not have the funds to complete it? Take a stone fireplace for example.  If you were to utilize authentic stone, the entire project would cost thousands.  Not only would you have to purchase the materials themselves, however you would also have to rent expensive tools and machinery and most likely hire out the installation (unless you are a secret handyman).  With faux stone panels, however, you could accomplish the same gorgeous faux stone fireplace in a single afternoon and install it on your own!  Like we said, the perfect addition to any room of the house.
  2. Versatility. Faux stone panels can be used in literally every room of the house. They are so versatile in that they can be used for so many different project ideas.  We named a few above. In addition to those, you can also use them to create a man cave, wine cellar, outdoor kitchen, accentuate your landscaping, fire pit, exterior of the home, or even use them on part of the wall as wainscoting,

  4. Durability.  Faux stone panels, once applied, will be there to stay.  We are not saying you cannot remove them if you change your mind (you won’t), however, they are built to last.  At Faux Direct we use only the highest quality of polyurethane material to create each panel.  The end result looks and feels exactly like authentic stone, however polyurethane is impervious to moisture.  Therefore, the panels are resistant to rot, mildew, and mold.  They are also designed to withstand the effects of weather, both hot and cold, and are UV resistant.  They will not crack or chip, nor will they dent. All in all, there will be little to no maintenance for the entirety of their lifespan.

Before getting started on an interior design project, whether it be for your home, office, or business space, it is important to have a plan in place.  You should be aware of all steps involved in the process as well as anything that could arise during it.  In addition to this, it is important to have a budget in place and stick to that.  In the end, you will be extremely happy you followed a plan from the start, rather than planning as you go.

  1. Understand the Space You’re Working With. First things first, you must decide which room you are going to design.  Once that has been decided, get to fully understand that space you will be working with.  Know it inside and out.  Take measurements, dimensions, and even take note where the outlets and switches are located.  Knowing the space so well will help you when it comes to deciding what exactly is going into that space, whether it be new furniture, paint, floor coverings, etc.  You should also make a list of the items you will be filling in that space with.
  2. Decide What Will Take Place There. What is the intended purpose for the room?  If it is a bedroom, then the most obvious purpose will be sleeping.  If it is a family room, you will most likely want a television, however many people also want to make the room friendly to playing games, reading, etc.  Consider all of the activities that will take place in that room prior to the design project.

  4. Write Out Your Plan. Having a well written out plan will help you visualize everything throughout the process.  You can draw an actual floor plan for where things will go.
  5. Make sure to choose lighting wisely.  Having good lighting is key for being able to fully enjoy the space, navigate throughout the room, and set a good ambience.
  6. Choose the Pieces and Materials. Last but not least, you should select what furniture, window treatments, floor coverings, decor, and materials will be used.  For example, if you are looking to create a stone fireplace, you should price out the materials ahead of time that will best fit the space and your budget.  Faux stone paneling is a highly sought after option, as it is extremely affordable and looks and feels exactly like real stone.  It can also be applied on your own.  At the end of your design project, you will be so happy you created this well thought out plan and stuck with it!

There are two types of people in this world: rule followers and rule breakers.  Some people really get a high off doing the opposite of what they are told, while others can be thrown into a full on panic attack just from the thought of breaking a rule. Regardless of which you identify with, you can agree that there are indeed times and places where rules need to be followed; such as wearing your seatbelt on a roller coaster.  If not, the consequences are not generally good.  When it comes to faux wall paneling, we thoroughly advise you to follow the rules.  It will only help you in the long run!  If you try to bypass certain steps, you just might ruin the end result.

The first rule is a fun one: choose your favorite faux wall paneling for the project you wish to complete.  You literally cannot go wrong here, because Faux Direct makes only the highest quality faux wall paneling.  Each panel, whether it is a variety of brick, stone, or wood, is made from a high quality polyurethane.  Despite the fact that the panels are not real, they look and feel real because of the quality of the synthetic material in which they were made. If you aren’t sure which look to go for, ask for some free samples! The customer service team will be happy to help.

Faux Wall PanelingThe second rule: once panels are received in the mail, unbox and allow an entire 24 hours to pass before installation.  Now folks, this is an important one.  The reason this is necessary is because the paneling needs to get used to the temperature and humidity level where they will be applied.  If not, you run the risk of them either shrinking or expanding once applied to the wall.

Third rule: follow the step-by-step installation manual (found under the ‘Resources’ tab).  This incredibly thorough guide will walk you through the entire process, beginning to end.  It will tell you what tools to have on hand, what adhesive to use, and exactly how they are to be placed on the wall.  If you follow these instructions to a T, you shouldn’t have a problem yielding a gorgeous end result with your faux wall paneling.  If you skip a step, however, well- then you are on your own.  Cannot say we didn’t warn you!

Rather than settle for just ‘okay’ wouldn’t you rather have ‘great’, ‘excellent’, ‘awesome’, or ‘the best’?  Many people will encourage you to always try and be the best version of yourself.  This should also go for anything you do, whether it is a project at work or a project at home.  Rather than just doing what is necessary to get by and just making it ‘good enough’, take it to the next level by doing your absolute best at everything you can in life.

Take home projects for example.  There is a reason they have an entire website dedicated to Pinterest fails.  People try to complete a DIY project without actually fully trying, and the outcome becomes comedic relief for all.  When it comes to a remodel, however, or something in your home that is going to last awhile, you want to make sure you give it your absolute best and use the best possible materials available.

Enter: faux brick panels.

faux-brick-wall-panelsFaux brick paneling is the perfect way to take it to the next level.  Don’t settle for authentic brick!  Here’s why:

  • It’s expensive
  • It’s messy
  • It will chip
  • It is hard to clean
  • You have to pay someone to install it (most likely)
  • It takes a long time to put in

Do the above reasons sound fun to you?  Most likely the answer is no.  So then, why should you use faux brick panels instead?

  • They are affordable
  • They are lightweight
  • They are DIY- usually installed in a single afternoon
  • They are easy to clean
  • No messy grout
  • Durable as can be
  • Fire rated
  • Weatherproof
  • UV resistant

How’s that for a pros/cons list?

There is so much that can be accomplished with faux brick panels.  For example, they can be used to create an accent wall, a fireplace, an outdoor kitchen, an outdoor fire pit, a kitchen back splash, or even a wine cellar!  Whatever you can dream up using authentic brick on the wall, faux brick panels are there to make that dream come true.  They look and feel exactly the same as authentic brick, so no one will be able to tell the difference but you!  They are cast from authentic brick using high quality polyurethane foam, so the end result is literally uncanny. For your next home project, take it to the next level with faux brick panels!

If you are looking for a change in your home, which is highly warranted from time to time, you’ve landed in the right place.  After a while, certain aspects of your home can start to feel dated.  You might look at a sofa you purchased 7 years ago and once loved and think to yourself “what on earth was I thinking?”.  The facts are the facts: trends change.  And sometimes so do people’s tastes!  There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.  Change can be a fun thing, especially if you are willing to put in a little elbow grease and do some DIY projects of your own in order to make it happen.  Below are 4 simple ways to redecorate your home without spending an arm and a leg!

  1. Rearrange Furniture. Rather than go out and purchase completely new furniture, you might just need to rearrange it.  Do so in a way that allows for the most optimal space in the room as well as a balanced and even flow/feel.  You might even take certain pieces and put them in completely different rooms.  Up to you!  The end result will feel like a big change.
  2. Repaint. Painting does not necessarily need to be extremely expensive or time consuming.  If there is more than one room you want painted, break it up as to not overwhelm yourself.  Take your favorite color samples from Benjamin Moore in to your local home renovation store in order to color match them for free for a fraction of the cost!
  3. faux brick

  4. Add Texture. At first glance, completing a project such as adding a stone fireplace or a brick accent wall can sound expensive and time consuming.  However, that would only be if you were to use authentic stone or brick!  You can complete either of those projects in a single afternoon (yep, that’s right, all on your own), for a fraction of the price with faux stone or faux brick paneling!  These panels are the perfect way to add texture without breaking the bank.  The end result is simply stunning, and no one will be able to tell that they aren’t actually real.
  5. Clean out Clutter. This might not sound like a way to actually redecorate your home, but you might be surprised.  Cutting down on clutter and excess stuff will actually make your house feel roomier and like a completely different space.  Fill bags with things that you can donate, and throw out the stuff you can’

If you had to describe ambience, in one word, how would you do so?

Ambience: the character or atmosphere of a place.

Well, by definition, every single interior has an ambience.  The question, therefore, lies in whether or not it’s a good one.  Do you feel that your home has an ambience worth talking about?  Would you say it is good, so so, or could use some help?  Most people agree that the interior of their home could use a little work.  The Spring is often the time that people go to work on a renovation project or two in order to make it happen.

Well, folks, Spring has certainly sprung, so it is time to get off our butts and enhance our interior ambience.  If you aren’t sure where to begin, read on for some ideas.

  1. Proper Paint Color. This has everything to do with the mood and feel of the interior of the home.  What vibe are you looking to give off?  Lighter, neutral colors make a room feel peaceful, serene, and often larger than it really is.  Darker colors tend to make a space feel darker, smaller, and more closed off.  However, for some people this is the ambience they are looking to achieve.  First, decide what your favorite vibe is, and then choose your paint colors accordingly.
  2. Nice Furniture. After awhile, especially with small children, furniture can look worn and tattered.  It may be time to take those slipcovers into the laundry mat for a good dry cleaning.  Or, it may even be time to invest in some new pieces.  Try to stay current with modern trends, as dated furniture can completely throw off an interior ambience.

  4. Interior Features. When we say features, we are referring to unique things that not every house has.  For example, not everyone has a fireplace, kitchen backsplash, or a stone shower.  Choose one or two interior features you would love to have in your home, and complete them with faux wall paneling.  You can choose from faux stone, faux brick, or faux wood to get the job done.  The best part is they are DIY and extremely affordable.  Whether you are going for an accent wall, man cave, wine cellar, or a dreamy spa-like bathroom, you will be able to complete it with faux wall paneling.
  5. Wall Art. Are you an avid photographer?  Perhaps you can blow up some of your work onto a canvas or two.  Frame photos and paintings of things you love and describe you and your family.  Or, consider hanging non-traditional things on the wall such as textiles to make a statement. Wall art will complete the look and feel of your interior ambience.

It can be extremely easy to only focus on the inside of a home.  After all, it is where most of a person’s time is spent.  Because of this, however, the exterior of the home often gets left in the dust.  Even though you may not spend as much time outdoors as you do indoors, it is still important to have a nice exterior ambience.  The backyard is used primarily in the spring and summer, and the front yard is where all the curb appeal is held.  There is a reason HOA companies were put into place, to make sure people keep their properties looking nice!  No one likes driving down the street and noticing their neighbor’s house looks like a complete dump.  It pulls the value down of their own home if they are trying to sell.  Keeping your exterior ambience on its A game will make your neighbors happy, but most importantly make you happy.  Here are a few tips on how to get your yard into tip top shape!

  1. Trimmed Landscaping. Bushes can easily overgrow, and weeds will most certainly take over.  Stay on top of your landscaping by keeping the bushes and trees trimmed and the weeds pulled.  The overgrown look simply is not in.  Neat and tidy will enhance your exterior ambience two fold.
  2. Fresh Paint. Another way to enhance your exterior ambience is with a fresh coat of paint.  This should be done every five years on your home, as after time passes, paint can chip and be discolored from harsh sunlight and rust from sprinkler water.
  3. faux stone outdoor pool and kitchen

  4. Unique Features. This category requires some thought and planning.  Every yard, typically the back, should have a specific feature that makes it unique.  For example, an in ground pool complete with a waterfall and spa gives a home its own outdoor oasis.  For other homes, perhaps it is a fire pit or an outdoor kitchen.  What do you feel that you would get most use out of?  A waterfall, fire pit, and outdoor kitchen can all be created on your own with faux stone paneling.  It is lightweight, easy to apply, and beyond affordable.  You can give your exterior ambience the perfect touch with a unique feature designed and completed with faux stone panels from Faux Direct.
  5. faux stone fire pit

  6. Outdoor Furniture. Last but not least, you need a place for you, your family, and your guests to sit back and relax.  Otherwise, what is the point of having any of the features mentioned above?  Outdoor furniture can be a bit on the pricy end, so do some searching for consignment furniture or furniture purchased from wholesale stores like Costco or Sam’s Club.  This investment will be well worth it and complete your exterior ambience with the perfect touch.

It might be time, especially after years of harsh weather, for your deck to have a quick makeover.  It does not need to be a long, drawn out, nor expensive project.  Perhaps you have shied away from doing it for years for this reason alone.  With faux stone panels and a few other tips, you can update your deck in a quick, efficient, and affordable manner.  It will be just what you need to get your deck looking amazing in a flash for you to enjoy all summer long.  Instead of always finding excuses not to host cookouts at your house, you will be lining up first to have your friends over in order to show off your handiwork.

First things first, you need to give your deck a good cleaning.  Years of weathering can put a nice layer of grime on top of your deck wood as well as fade the color.  Sweep off the deck to get rid of leaves, bugs, and cobwebs.  Next, rent or borrow a good pressure washer, and go to town!  You might surprise yourself with how gratifying the job actually is.

Secondly, if needed, it may be time to re-stain your deck wood as well as clean it.  Head to your local home renovation store to select the color of stain you are looking to use, and follow the easy directions on the back of the can.  This shouldn’t take too long, and generally requires only 24 hours to dry.

Last but not least, for the total renovation, add faux stone paneling to your deck railing.  Most people choose to do this on the corner posts, as it does a great job at accentuating the deck railing as well as adding variation to the design.  Using faux stone panels is a far more affordable option than using authentic stone, and it can be applied by yourself in a single afternoon.

Look at this deck railing that was done using our faux stone panels:

faux stone deck railing

Simply select your favorite faux stone option from our ‘Products’ tab and allow 2-3 weeks for it to arrive.  Once it does, follow the simple step-by-step tutorial to apply them.  You will be happy to know that the panels are designed to withstand the effects of all types of weather, both hot and cold.  They are also UV resistant and resistant to mold, mildew, and rot. In a nutshell, your faux stone paneled deck will provide the updates you are wanting without the associated time, hassle, and money and will look amazing for years to come.
