Unless you have enough money to use it as toilet paper, you probably enjoy saving a buck or two here and there.  Some people clip coupons, some people purchase ‘Senior’ tickets at the movie theater when they are 25 years old, and some people are suckers for the ole’ BOGO.  Whether you are a spender or a saver, you probably agree that spending less money is not a bad thing.  Read on for a huge way you can save money on your next home renovation project.

Faux wall paneling is a brilliant way to keep a few extra Benjamins in the bank.  If you are not aware, faux wall paneling is all the rage in the home renovation arena.  It is used in leu of authentic brick, stone, and wood on the daily.

The main reason?  It is a real money saver.

brick accent wall

First off, the materials themselves are far cheaper than using real wood, brick, or stone.  At Faux Direct, all of our faux brick, faux stone, and faux wood paneling is constructed out of polyurethane foam.  Each panel is actually cast out of the real stuff using the foam, so it maintains the same authentic look and texture.  Polyurethane is far more affordable than obtaining the authentic materials.

There is a reason that companies get rich when they create ‘knock off’ versions of things (Giga pet, anyone?).  Because people like to save money!  Why spend tons of money on the real thing when you can get the next best thing that looks exactly the same for far less money?

Another way you will save money by opting to go faux is eliminating the purchase of expensive tools or machines.  When you install stone or wood, you have to have a fancy saw that can cut each piece.  When you install either stone or brick, you have to have messy expensive mortar.  When you install wood, you have to purchase expensive wood glue.  Not the case with faux stone panels.  All that is necessary in order to install these bad boys is either affordable caulk or glue and a few standard tools.

The final way you will save money by going faux is because you can install them all on your own!  Yep, you heard us.  Let your inner Tim the Tool Man Taylor shine this holiday season, and surprise your family with a gorgeous faux stone fireplace or a sweet faux brick outdoor kitchen.  Each panel is lightweight and very simple to apply.

There you have it, another way to save money in the very expensive world we live in!  You’re welcome.

Time is of the essence; at least that is what they always say.  What does that even mean, anyways?

If you must know, it first originated as a legal term.  Basically it states, that in a contract, there is a date in which something must be completed by.  This phrase is used daily by normal non lawyer types as well, simply meaning that we do not have limitless amounts of time in order to accomplish certain tasks.  Time is always ticking!

Because time is always ticking, we like to do things that save us time, not add extra time.  For example, many people, when it comes to decorating or re-doing parts of their home, decide against it simply because it can be time consuming to do so.  Perhaps they do not have enough money to hire out the job, and the only option is to do it themselves.  How on earth is something like this supposed to get done on top of work, social obligations, extra curricular activities, kids’ sports, and so forth?

If you identify with the aforementioned person: someone burdened by all of the to-do’s in this world, but would love to renovate a part of your home, we have a solution for you! You can actually accomplish a wide array of home projects in a minimal amount of time through the use of faux wall paneling.

Faux wall paneling is used in leu of authentic brick, stone, and wood in order to create all different types of things on the exterior or interior of the home or business: accent wall, kitchen island, kitchen back splash, bathroom shower/tub, exterior of home, monument sign, fence posts, entry gates, and so forth.  (For a complete list, head to our ‘Applications’ section.

Using faux wall paneling is a huge time saver because you can install them on your own in a matter of hours.  Once your paneling arrives in the mail (around 3-10 business days), you will follow the step-by-step guide included and be able to apply your faux wall paneling in a single afternoon.  All that is needed is either caulk or glue and a few standard tools.  They are extremely lightweight, so if you have back problems do not fret.  This is a job that you can easily accomplish, with or without help from others.  You will be so proud of yourself when you step back and admire your gorgeous project; one that you may have not ever done if faux wall paneling wasn’t an option.

Here are the top 6 ways you can transform your home with faux wall panels:

  1. Create an Accent Wall. Accent walls are wonderful for highlighting a specific feature in your home, such as a fireplace or bed, as well as delineating a space in an open concept home.
  2. Create a Man Cave. A man cave should be just that, a cave.  Add faux stone panels to create an authentic man cave that will leave women feeling jealous.
  3. Kitchen Backsplash. Many people opt to go faux for a kitchen backsplash because it is easy to clean and adds a look that would be hard to achieve otherwise.  (i.e. Wood is not typically chosen for a backsplash simply because it does not pair well with moisture.  Because our faux wall panels are impervious to moisture, this is not an issue when using for a kitchen backsplash.)
  4. Transform a Bath Tub or Shower. Add faux stone, faux brick, or faux wood paneling around a bathtub or shower to create your own personal spa like oasis right within the walls of your home.
  5. Exterior of Home. Who doesn’t love the look of stone, wood, or brick on the outside of a home?  Many people shy away from it simply due to the price.  Now you can easily afford a gorgeous transformation on the outside of your home.
  6. Monument Sign. Take a boring sign from drab to fab through the use of faux brick panels and make people want to do business with you!

Here are the top 3 reasons why faux wall paneling is being used and why it rocks:

  1. Our faux wall panels at Faux direct are made from a high quality polyurethane material.  Because of this, it is extremely affordable.  All of our products are manufactured right here in the USA.  This keeps production and shipping costs low, and gives you the satisfaction of supporting our economy.  Faux wall panels are also affordable because you can install them all by yourself, which completely eliminates any labor costs whatsoever.  You will also save money by not having to rent any expensive tools or machines, like you would if you were apply real stone to say, a fireplace.  All that is required is standard tools, that 99% of homeowners own, in order to get the job done.
  2. Because our faux wall panels are made from polyurethane, they are extremely durable.  Polyurethane, by nature, is a closed cell material and impervious to the effects of moisture.  Moisture cannot penetrate its surface, therefore the likelihood of mold, rot, and mildew build up is extremely low.  Should any of those things occur, the faux wall panels can be easily wiped down with a damp rag.  No harsh chemicals necessary.  Our faux wall panels are also designed to withstand the effects of weather, both hot and cold.  This makes people confident in placing them outside of their home, on monument signs, or outside of their business.  Rain or shine, your faux wall panels will look amazing for years to come.  They are UV resistant and will not crack or chip.  We also have fire rated options available if you wish to place them around a heat source such as a fireplace or stove.
  3. Yep, you too can participate in the DIY revolution taking place in our country.  Our faux wall panels are lightweight and extremely easy to apply.  Simply gather your standard tools, caulk or glue, and follow the step-by-step tutorial provided and have a completed faux wall paneled project in a matter of hours.

When choosing between the real deal and faux, the choice is obvious.  Faux wall paneling rocks!

Why do anything in life? If someone told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it?  If someone told you to eat 3 big macs in a row, would you do it?  It would probably depend on what the task involved, and what benefit there were in doing so.  There is always a benefit in doing the things we do.  We eat to survive, we work to make money, we go out with friends to have fun, we sacrifice our own time and money and resources for the benefit of others, and so forth. There are many reasons why human beings do what they do, but they all contain one common quality; they benefit you or someone else.

Well, we most certainly have an idea for you that will benefit your life in a huge way.  The next time you have a home or business project, choose faux brick panels.  In the end you will be very grateful that you chose the faux vs. the authentic option.  And here’s why.

Faux brick panels are made from a high quality polyurethane foam.

So what?

Well, polyurethane brings several beneficial qualities along with it: affordability, durability, and ease of application.

Polyurethane is affordable! Unlike installing authentic brick, you will only need caulk or glue and a few standard tools.  No mortar and absolutely no labor costs.

Polyurethane is also durable! By nature, it is a closed cell material.  This means that moisture cannot penetrate its surface.  Because of that, mold, mildew, and rot will not creep in on your gorgeous faux brick panels once the project is complete.  At Faux Direct, all of our faux brick panels are designed to withstand the effects of weather, both hot and cold.  This means you can use them outdoors as well. They are also UV resistant, and we have fire rated options available should you desire to place them around a heat source, such as a fireplace or stove.  They will not chip or break, and you can count on them looking amazing for years to come.

Polyurethane is very easy to install.  Like previously mentioned, all you need are a few standard tools.  This means you can do it all on your own! They are lightweight, and can be applied in a matter of hours.

Perhaps you are one of those people who don’t get out much.  A night at home watching reruns of Modern Family with Chipotle takeout is your cup of tea.  You don’t love social media, and you never watch the news because it depresses you too much.  If you are one of these people, no big whoop.  You do you.  However, you might be a little slow on current events and what is in and what is out.

Good thing you stumbled across this article, because you are about to learn about something that is so very in right now.  And that something is faux stone panels.

Faux stone panels from Faux Direct are panels of veneer stone that are made to look and feel exactly like real stone.  The way this is accomplished is by using a high quality polyurethane foam to cast each panel from the authentic material itself.  This way, each panel contains the same grooves and textures that the real stone does.  At Faux Direct we have a wide variety of faux stone paneling options.  Anywhere from cobblestone to fieldstone.

The reasons people love using faux stone panels instead of authentic stone, is because they are far more affordable and durable.  You can actually install them yourself, so you will not have to hire out any labor.  All that is required is either glue or caulk, as well as a few standard tools.  This also frees you up financially because no machine or tool rentals will be necessary.

Faux stone panels are quite durable in that they are completely weatherproof.  They will not be damaged by snow, rain, sleet, sun, you name it.  They are also UV resistant.  Polyurethane, by nature, is a closed cell material so each of our faux stone panels are impenetrable by moisture.  This means that no rot, mildew, or mold will buildup on your panels.  They will not crack or chip, and will look amazing for years to come.  No need to worry about upkeep!

Faux stone panels can be easily ordered on our site.  They will arrive in 3-7 business days, and come with a full set of step by step application instructions.  Check out all of the ways you can use faux stone panels in our ‘Applications’ section.

There are two types of people in this world: creative ones, and non creative ones.  At first this statement might sound bleak, but take heart.  There is hope for those of you who fall into the non creative category.  Just because you might not consider yourself creative at this exact moment in time, does not mean that there is no chance for you out there.  You too have the capability to become creative, it just might take a little more effort than others.  And hey, there is no shame in that! Rome wasn’t built in a day, right?  At least that’s what they always say.  Things take work, and things take time.

We know of one way you can start exercising your inner creativity, and it is not even time consuming nor difficult.  Use faux wall paneling! At first this might sound scary and daunting, and something only meant for the Property Brothers, but we promise that you will easily be able to accomplish this project.

Faux wall paneling is a simple way to make a huge difference, either on the inside or out side of your home or business. Just think about it.  Look at what a statement this faux stone fireplace makes in this room:

There are so many ways to use faux wall paneling, and this is when you get to practice getting creative.  Think of all of the walls and features of your home.  Do you have a plain wall that you could make an accent wall?  What about a kitchen that does not have a backsplash?  Or a shower that is in need of some TLC?  Imagine how different your shower would feel if you adorned it in faux stone or faux wood paneling.  Perhaps you have an outdoor kitchen that needs sprucing up.  Or, you do not have an outdoor kitchen, but you want to create one.  Using faux wall paneling is the perfect way to do so, in a timely and costly manner.

Faux wall paneling from Faux Direct is DIY and super easy to install.  You can do so in a matter of hours if you put your mind to it.  All you need is either caulk or glue, and a few standard tools.  Head to our ‘Applications’ section to check out all of the ways that you can get creative with faux wall panelling and surprise yourself with how capable you really are.

Most people are future oriented.  It is what keeps us going, propelling us from one day and into the next.  We have hopes, dreams, and things that we want to accomplish in our short time here on earth.  Along those lines, most Americans are always looking to the next thing that is supposed to be the latest and greatest.  These things often bring forth several characteristics with them: money saving, time saving, and make life easier (i.e. the ever evolving smartphone, the internet being intertwined into every facet of our lives, Apple pay, Starbucks order and pay from your phone, vacuums that clean the house on their own, Amazon Now, and so forth).  People like these things simply because they bring something innovative to their lives while at the same time saving them money, adding more convenience, and saving time.

FD faux brick fireplace

One thing that is most certainly the way of the future is faux wall paneling.  In case you have not heard, faux wall paneling is the latest and greatest in the design world.  At Faux Direct, we manufacture several different categories of faux wall paneling: brick, wood, and stone.  Amongst those categories are dozens of types.  Each of our faux wall panels are cast from the authentic material using a high quality polyurethane foam.  The polyurethane makes prices affordable, while still maintaining the unique and realistic look and feel of real stone, brick, and wood.

The two main reasons people love and are seeking after faux wall paneling for the interior or exterior of their home or business is because of their durability and affordability.

Faux wall paneling is durable in that it is weatherproof, UV resistant, and impervious to the effects of moisture.  Because polyurethane, by nature, is a closed cell material-no moisture can penetrate its surface.  This means no mold, no mildew, and no termites.  Faux Direct also offers fire rated faux wall paneling specifically designed for use around heat sources, such as a fireplace or stove.  All in all, you can rest assured that your faux wall paneling will look amazing for years to come, despite the elements and effects of daily life activities.

Faux wall paneling is extremely affordable, primarily because it is made out of polyurethane.  It is also affordable because you can install it yourself, meaning you will not have to hire out labor.  Little tools are required, only standard ones, so you will also save money by not having to rent special tools or machines to get the job done.  Last but not least, Faux Direct manufactures and ships all of its products right here in the US, keeping production and shipping costs low.

Well there you have it: faux wall paneling is the way of the future due to its ability to save money, time, and make life easier.

The excitement has been building all week long, and it is practically Christmas morning.  Your faux stone panels have finally arrived.  Although it has only been five business days since you placed your order, a year may as well have come and gone in your mind.  That is how anxious you were to receive these beauties in the mail.  You open the box, and Faux Direct did not disappoint (because they never do).  Your Holtina Fieldstone faux stone panels look even more amazing and realistic in person.  You cannot wait to get them up around your fireplace.

stone fireplace

So, now what?

Well, now that they are out of the box, set them in the room where the fireplace is and allow them to stay there for 24 hours.  This gets your faux stone panels used to the humidity levels and temperature where they will be hanging out for the long haul.

Once the 24 hours has passed, the fun is now ready to begin.  Get your party pants on, blast the music, and prepare yourself for several hours of projectivity.  When you are done, you will feel more accomplished than ever before.

Lie your faux stone panels out on the floor and play around with the design you are going for.  Cut at least 1/4, 1/3, or 1/2 of an inch off of each side so each panel does not line up exactly the same.  This will give them the most authentic look as possible.

Next, draw a straight, horizontal line across the wall where you will apply your first row of faux stone panels.  From here, you will be able to work above and below for an even look.

Now it is time to locate the top and bottom of your panel.  The top has a protruding lip, whereas the bottom has a groove.  Turn the panel over, and apply your caulk or glue, leaving a 1 inch border.  If you are using glue, spread your drops apart no more than 4 inches from each other.  You can now press it to the wall, and secure with screws.

*Tip: Disguise your screws by securing them in cracks on the panel, or underneath parts of the stone.  You can then cover them up with the touch up paint.

Work above and below your first line until the wall around the fireplace is covered.  When completed, wipe off any excess glue or caulk with a damp rag, and touch up any imperfections with the touch up paint.

Voila!  You now have a gorgeous faux stone wall around your fireplace!

November 14, 2015

Applying your new faux brick panels to the wall of your choosing, whether it be an accent wall, around a fireplace, behind a bed, in the kitchen, in the bathroom, or wherever it may be, is going to be an exciting task.  You are going to get to exercise your inner creativity, and complete your very own DIY project.  Get ready, watch out, because it is about to get crazy ‘up in hurr’.

FD faux brick kitchen backsplash

First things first, gather your materials.  You will need a few standard tools, such as a level, screwdriver, and a good exact-o knife.  Take your faux brick panels out of their packaging, and expose them to the area they will be installed for 24 hours prior to actually installing them.  This enables them time to get used to the humidity levels and such, kind of like adding a new fish to tank.

After the 24 hours has passed, it is now time to apply.  Pick up one of your panels, and locate the top and the bottom.  The top will have a protruding lip, and the bottom will have a groove.  You will be able to easily slide the panels together thanks to these little inventions. Cut the edge each panel by 1/4, 1/3, or 1/2 inch so they won’t all line up.  This gives them the most authentic look as possible.  Next, draw a horizontal line across the wall and use your level to make sure it is straight.  You will be able to work above and below this point for the duration of your project.  Take your caulk or glue, and apply it to the back, leaving a 1 inch border around each panel.

Now comes the fun part.  Slap that bad boy on the wall and insert screws to secure it.  You can now finish that horizontal line across the wall, and upon completion of that, apply the rest of the faux brick panels above and below it until the wall is covered.

When you are all done, use a damp rag to wipe off any excess glue or caulk, and then use the touch up paint to cover any imperfections or areas where the screws might be showing.

Now, you are done!  Congratulations, you did it.  And we knew you could.  You now have a gorgeous faux brick wall that will look amazing for years to come.
