Installing Panels on Metal

  • Prior to beginning the installation process, make sure the surface you are installing the panel on is clean, dry, and free of any debris.
    • If the surface you will be applying your faux wall panel is flat, begin by putting glue or adhesive around the edges of the panel. The glue dots should be an inch from the edge of the panel and no more than 4 inches apart. Also, please be aware that although our PL Premium Fast Grab 8X polyurethane is an ideal adhesive for metals, you will need another support mechanism in place for the first 24 hours while the adhesive sets.
  • Application: Apply adhesive to the faux wall panel and press it firmly to the surface it is being installed on. The wall panel can be adjusted for the first 20 minutes after the adhesive has been put on. If both of the surfaces are non-porous, like foam, metal or fiber glass, then you must mist the adhesive lightly with water. This will shorten the time you are able to shift or alter the location of the wall panel to less than 15 minutes. Also, please remember that the wall panel will need additional support for the first 24 hours while the adhesive is setting.
  • If the surface you are applying the wall panel to has ridges, then you must apply the adhesive in a tight zigzag pattern on the elevated portions of the metal. The instructions found on the PL cartridge should always be followed.

    • Next, install your faux wall panel by placing it against the wall. Be sure that the wall panel is level and tightly situated against the surface. You must then apply adhesive on the lip of the faux wall panel, around 1 inch from the edge.
  • Apply textured caulk in between the two panels at the seam. Adding textured caulk to the seam will guarantee a weather-proof seal and prevent any possible damage caused by severe weather
  • Use screws to help secure your panel against the wall. Place screws around the border of the faux wall panels 8” apart as well as in the middle of the panel, using one screw per square foot. This ensures that your faux wall panel will be able to contract and expand with the metal surface.
  • Continue the installation process by repeating the steps previously listed. Place wall panels next to one another by pushing them tightly against each other and the wall. Spread the glue by lightly sliding each panel back and forth. Make sure that each panel is placed snuggly against one another and that they are all level. Panels may expand or contract along with the metal as the temperature rises and falls. Continue to repeat these steps until you have finished putting in the first row.
  • Clean off excess caulk using a wet rag. Smooth caulk and fill in any holes you may have missed.
  • Repeat the previous steps to install additional rows of wall panels. When installing panels above one another, be sure to place them bottom to top. Use scraps cut off from previously used panels to disrupt repeating patterns and make your faux wall panels look even more realistic
  • Lastly, use the paint included in the Touch-up Kit to conceal any visible screws or excess caulk. Now you can start enjoying your beautiful new wall! Please Read: The top of the panel is indicated by a protruding lip whereas the bottom has a groove. Be sure to caulk and glue together all joints, including miters. You may need to cut down your wall panels to ensure they all line up properly. Make sure you follow all safety guidelines when installing these panels and to always adhere to all building codes enforced in your area. Never install faux wall panels near heat sources.
